In the past 3-4 years, I started noticing a small patch or 2 of these fleabane daisies in the back yard about this time of year. And when I mowed for the first time each spring, I'd mow around them to be able to enjoy them a little longer. But when it was time to mow again, they were looking pretty pathetic so I just mowed them down. This year there is a huge patch of them near the base of the big maple in the back yard and a couple of smaller (but still much larger than in the past) patches throughout the yard. We've had a couple of hard rains and some strong wind so I thought that might be the end of them, but they're still holding up. (And I've mowed 4 times.) There are also 4 patches of purple ground flowers and a smattering of some tall and spindly yellow flowers mixed in with the white daisies. I can hardly believe it every time I look out the kitchen window or when I'm sitting on the deck.
The first and last photos below were taken March 31st this year. The others were taken May 3rd.
