Yesterday afternoon when it was snowing so hard, I kept looking out the kitchen windows - thinking I might see some birds at the feeders. But there weren't any on the deck or at the feeder by the side window. And then when I looked out about 4:30, I thought I saw something in the bush next to my neighbor's house. But it seemed tucked way back in the bush and it was starting to get dark, so I wasn't sure if there really was something there or not.
Finally I went to get my camera and zoomed way in on the bush. And there was a cardinal. So I got my tripod and tried to take some pictures. The first 5 (or 10, or 20) were just a blur with white streaks (the snow) and a dark reddish blob. A kazillion pictures later, (thank goodness for digital cameras) I was able to get something that I could recognized as a cardinal.
Today about noon there was a lull in the snow. I noticed a cardinal hanging out on the fence right next to the bush. Of course, there's no way to know if it was the same one I saw yesterday, but I'd like to think it was.
