Minnesota Loons - webcam screen captures

June 03, 2012

Ron Schara's Minnesota Bound website has a webcam set up at a loon nest in central Minnesota.  The first egg was laid on 7May2012 and hatched this morning.

A second egg was laid on 10May2012 and the people who know more than I do about these things say that egg should hatch in the nest day or two.

These are screen captures from the loon cam on the Minnesota Bound website and are the property of that site.    http://www.mnbound.com/live-loon-cam/

In addition to the webcam, there is also a lot of good info on this site and a wonderful blog:  Larry's Loon Blog.  One of my morning rituals has become to sit down with my coffee, yogurt topped with blueberries and chopped almonds and read that blog - a calming way to start the day.

Peeking out from under the left wing.  The loons "transplanted" the iris when they were working on the nest earlier in the spring.

Chick is under the left wing.

Out for some sun, but not far from the adult.

Catching a ride back to the nest after his first swim.  The second egg is in the nest.  The loons leave the eggs unattended for only short periods of time.

All screen captures are the property of Ron Schara's Minnesota Bound
