On the afternoon of July 10, 2000, I was driving down Davie Avenue and noticed smoke pouring out of the the second floor of a house. Just as I was about to call 911, I heard the fire engines. For the next couple of hours, my camera and I sat on my neighbors' porch watching the activity. It was a hot day. (I went to the weatherunderground website and used their tool to check the weather details on that date. The high was 95°.) The definition of "hero" is each of the firefighters and the EMS team who worked so hard on that hot day in July, 12 years ago.
