Aldo Leopold was born on January 11, 1887 in Burlington, Iowa.  He was an author, philosopher, scientist, ecologist, forester, conservationist, and environmentalist.  He is best known for his book A Sand County Almanac (1949)  He died in Baraboo, Wisconsin in 1948.  You can read more about him and the Aldo Leopold Foundation here.
