"In knitting there are ancient possibilities; the earth is enriched with the dust of ancient knitters who have held wool and needles since the beginning of sheep...one likes to believe that there is memory in the fingers; memory undeveloped, but still alive." Elizabeth Zimmermann August 9, 1910 - November 3, 1999
My first Baby Surprise Jacket (October 2010) - designed by Elizabeth Zimmermann in 1968
To me, it is a genius design, knit in a single piece, and when taken off the needles it looks like this - an odd blob.
After folding, (it's been compared to origami) and sewing the seams that run across each of the shoulders and along the top of the sleeves, it is, SURPRISE! a baby jacket.
"Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn't hurt the untroubled spirit either."
"Knit on with confidence and hope through all crises."
